About the event
About us
We are British wool spinners working within the Cornwall and UK manufacturing sectors and processing quantities of fleece from 20kg to over a tonne. We turn raw fleece into high quality wool yarn for our customers, from smallholders and local farmers to large scale trade businesses in the UK and worldwide. We offer highly specialized services including small batch Scouring, Carding, Woollen and Worsted Spinning, Finishing and Fulfilment, all taking place under one roof in our mill in Launceston, Cornwall. We believe in creating high quality products which are made to last with good design being applied to turn natural fibres into classic, elegant, and hard-wearing products that can be valued, passed on through the generations and are truly sustainable. We also produce and sell our own 100% British Wool breedspecific yarns under the brand name, Blacker Yarns. We have a research and development testing house facility where we collaborate with a range of partners including academics and students to test and work with less familiar and recycled materials (such as human hair, dog hair and hemp blended with wool) and our own mill waste by-products to support a greener and circular economy.
How we will be involved with National Manufacturing Day:
We will be opening our doors to welcome groups of young people from secondary schools and the FE and HE sectors, along with community groups from the Cornwall and South West region, providing behind-the-scenes tours of our mill. Visits must be booked in advance.
For timings please contact us directly to book a tour.
